Potbelly History
Many of the most successful food chains around the globe were established by loans, great ideas, and a lot of luck. Pizza Hut was created by a lucky investment in a local structure;
Papa John's started life in a broom closet in a tavern; Carl's Jr. was established when the founders sold their car to buy a hotdog stand; Orange Julius came from the friend of the founder, who invented orange juice due to a stomach problem.
Potbelly is the most famous of all these stories. It was actually born in an antique shop.
This antique shop was located in Chicago and sold knick-knacks as well as beaten first editions and old appliances.
The owners decided to sell sandwiches in 1977 to increase business, attract more customers and make a little extra money. The owners toasted their bread and made a product to order using fresh ingredients.
They were so successful that they decided to get rid of the antiques and keep the sandwiches. Then, they expanded the business. As an independent sandwich shop, the owners made quite a lot of money.
Despite all this, Potbelly has not changed the way they cook, prepare, and sell their food. They still make everything fresh and toast it every day, which has allowed them to expand to more than 400 locations across the country.
